Come Clean: Time to Clean up Political Donations [Sydney]
The campaign to reform political donations in Australia – COME CLEAN – was launched with well-attended forums in Sydney and Melbourne. Academic experts and Politicians from different political parties discussed the issues and challenges confronting reformers in this area. More than 100 people attended each event. Former Premier John Cain, Patron of the John Cain Foundation and a politician known for his integrity, introduced both forums.
Dr Colleen Lewis was commissioned by the John Cain Foundation to write a research paper and to develop policies for reform. Her recommended actions are supported by the Foundation. Dr Lewis presented her paper at the forums.
Expert panels participated in Q&A sessions facilitated by Laura Tingle (Sydney) and Maxine McKew (Melbourne). Panel members included former politicians Nick Greiner, John Faulkiner and Ken Coghill and current parliamentarians Luke Foley and John Madigan.
